Queensland opener Matt Renshaw is expected to join up with the Australia cricket team in Johannesburg on Wednesday after he was called up for the final Test.

Renshaw — who scored 37 and an unbeaten 81 as Queensland won the Sheffield Shield Final against Tasmania by nine wickets — will join a deflated Australia team that was hammered by 322 runs by South Africa in the third Test while they are also engulfed in a ball-tampering scandal.

Steve Smith has been suspended by the ICC and is expected to be stripped of the captaincy, while Cricket Australia could also force David Warner to sit out the fourth Test of the series. South Africa lead 2-1.

Renshaw, who turns 22 on Wednesday, has played 10 Tests for Australia, scoring 623 runs at an average of 36.64. He made 10 and 34 on his Test debut as Australia beat South Africa by seven wickets in the day/night Test in Adelaide in 2016.

He last pulled on the Baggy Green last September for the second Test against Bangladesh in Chittagong.

Wicketkeeper Tim Paine, who was thrust into the captaincy on day four of the third Test at Newlands, is expected to lead the side once again at the Wanderers.
