South Africa’s Quinton de Kock has lost ground in the latest International Cricket Council rankings for Test batsmen.
De Kock moved up the order for the third and final Test against India in Ranchi after opener Aiden Markram was sidelined by a wrist injury. The elevation failed, as the left-hander managed just four and five.
He has since slipped to 13th in the rankings, flanked by New Zealand’s Ross Taylor in 12th and Pakistani Babar Azam in 14th position.

The veteran Vernon Philander moved up the rankings for Test all-rounders despite not playing in Ranchi. Philander’s fifth position is only bettered by West Indian Jason Holder, India’s Ravindra Jadeja, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and England’s Ben Stokes.
All-rounder George Linde, who debuted in Ranchi, entered the rankings for Test batsmen in 104th position. He scored 37 in the first innings and 27 in the second. His four wickets in India’s only innings earned 99th position in the rankings for Test bowlers.
The Proteas’ next Test series will be against the English, starting in late December. Markram has been ruled out of the preceding Mzansi Super League, but is anticipated to be fit for England’s arrival.
