Faf du Plessis says the Proteas will consider playing five seamers against India at the Wanderers.
South Africa will be hungry to whitewash India 3-0 and draw level with them on 118 Test rating points.
With the Wanderers pitch set to be as green as usual, Du Plessis did not rule out picking five seamers.
‘It’s something we are thinking about in our selection,’ he said on Tuesday. ‘But that will be done a little later. It is an option and was for Centurion too, because the ball doesn’t spin there regularly. Then we found that the pitch was the opposite.
‘We just have to make sure we keep our options open. It should be a normal Wanderers wicket. We will have to see tomorrow morning if it has the same amount of grass on it.
‘Keshav [Maharaj] is an extremely talented spin bowler and we are very lucky to have him. If we do leave him out we have to be 100% sure [it’s the right move].’
Du Plessis said either Andile Phehlukwayo or Theunis de Bruyn could come into the side.
‘It will depend on whether we go for an all-rounder to give an option from a batting and bowling point of view, or seven batters and four seamers.’
