Proteas opening batsman Dean Elgar expects great things from fast bowler Lungi Ngidi.
Ngidi has made an impressive Test debut. The 21-year-old took his maiden Test wicket by removing Parthiv Patel in India’s first innings. He added two more names to that hitlist in their second innings – Lokesh Rahul and Virat Kohli – as India were reduced to 35-3 at stumps on day four.
Ngidi bowled with precision and aggression and Elgar complimented the youngster for his positive approach.
‘I just think it’s the confidence of the youth. Natural ability will come out irrespective of whatever attitude you bring in, but Lungi has a very unique and special attitude. He’s always got a smile on his face.
‘I’m very happy for Lungi. He’s been someone who I’ve been following quite closely and I’m his teammate at the Titans.
‘I’ve seen him do special things on the field. He’s a very confident young kid and his talent will only get stronger and stronger.’
India head into day five needing another 252 runs to win, while South Africa need seven wickets to clinch the series with a match remaining.
