Morne Morkel has ruled out a draw at Centurion and says a lead of 250 might be enough for the Proteas.

South Africa will take a 118-lead into day three of the second Test against India. While Virat Kohli scored 153, the Proteas still managed to bowl out India for 307 to take a 28-run lead into their second innings.

AB de Villiers was on 50 not out and Dean Elgar on 36, before rain and bad light stopped play.

While the Proteas will have their work cut out for them to win the match, and the series, Morkel believes it will not end in a draw.

‘A result is very much possible,’ said Morkel after the close of play on Monday. ‘That’s if we can bat through the first session without losing any wickets and attack after lunch.

‘The game is still very open. Off the top of my head, I would say 250 [lead] going into day five, with the wicket turning a little bit and staying low … that would be a very good score.

‘It’s important to not look too far ahead, there are plenty of overs still left in the game.

‘For us, it’s just important, when the ball is coming on nicely tomorrow, to cash in.’

Day four’s play will start at 10:00 on Tuesday.
