Tabraiz Shamsi says the Proteas are not at the T20 World Cup to make up the numbers.

South Africa claimed a thrilling four-wicket win against Sri Lanka on Saturday that took them to second spot on the Group 1 log after three rounds of matches.

Shamsi showed why he is the world’s No 1-ranked T20 bowler by taking 3-17 and being named Man of the Match.

“We’re here to try and win a World Cup for the country and I would like to contribute as much as I can in every game,” Shamsi said afterwards.

“I wasn’t as good as I wanted to be in the previous game [against the West Indies] as I was working with a niggle and I really wanted to do something special.

“Everyone is doing a job for the team and today was my day, along with Dwaine Pretorius [who also took three wickets] in this game.

“Everyone who takes the ball has done a great job and I’m really happy with how things went.”

When asked about his wicket-taking celebrations, Shamsi said: “There’s a World Cup to be won, so how can one not be passionate?”

The Proteas’ next match is on Tuesday against Bangladesh, who have lost all three of their Super 12 fixtures so far.
