The Netherlands is expected to be without Cody Gakpo and Matthijs de Ligt amongst three other players when they take on France in their Euro 2024 qualifier.

The Netherlands were already without Barcelona playmaker Frenkie de Jong and winger Steven Bergwijn for Friday’s match at the Stade de France against the World Cup finalists.

They will also be without the 23-year-old Gakpo, who has scored four Premier League goals since joining Liverpool in January from PSV Eindhoven following his World Cup success with the Netherlands.

Gakpo, De Ligt, Sven Botman of Newcastle United, Bart Verbruggen of Anderlecht, and Joey Veerman of PSV Eindhoven were all required to leave the Dutch training camp.

On Monday, the Dutch will host Gibraltar in their second qualifying match.

According to a KNVB statement, the five players “left the Dutch national team’s training camp this morning.”

“They are suffering from a viral infection.”

The statement indicates that Ronald Koeman has called up Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich, Kjell Scherpen of Vitesse, and Stefan de Vrij of Inter as replacements.

“After the match against France, the makeup of the squad will be reviewed,” the federation said.

Group B also includes the Republic of Ireland and Greece, with the top two teams advancing to the finals in Germany next year.
