Hungary proved themselves to be far from the Euro 2016 whipping boys with a spirited display on Tuesday, led by veteran goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly.
Kiraly became the oldest player in the competition’s history at 40 years and 74 days but proved himself to be a more than capable goalkeeper against Hungary.
The experienced shotstopper, who stole the headlines for not just his age but also his tracksuit bottoms, recovered after David Alaba’s first minute shot which hit the woodwork to help his side to a famous 2-0 win.
According to SASoccermag’s Opta-powered match centre, Kiraly made three saves from three faced during his clean sheet performance.
The 40-year old completed 23 passes and was reliable in possession all evening as Austria become more and more frustrated with their inability to breakdown Kiraly’s defence.
Hungary will now set their sights on qualifying from Group F with matches against Portugal and Iceland still to come.
