PUMA caught up with Bafana Bafana and Club Brugge star Percy Tau to find out how he’s adapting to self-isolating due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With the far-reaching impact of the Coronavirus on sport we would like to share with your fans how you are adapting your routine to accommodate social distancing and staying home, while still keeping physically fit and mentally strong.

TRAINING

  • Have you needed to adapt your training and how are you keeping in shape?

Yes, I have adapted my training. The club has given each member of the team gym equipment to use at home. So I am keeping fit, however, there’s nothing that beats being on the field. Moving from group to individual training requires a lot of self-discipline. So far, I am on the right track.

  • What shoes do you train in?

Been training in PUMA Hybrid Ozone for my weight training as comfort and cushioning are important.

  • Do you use the PUMATRAC app for training?

Started using it last week, getting used to it slowly. It’s a very enjoyable app. I am trying every possible trainer on a daily basis, so do not have a favourite yet.

  • Have you had to adjust your diet to maintain your ‘fighting’ weight?

Not really, just taking extra care to what I eat and drink but have not dramatically changed anything.

  • Have your club, manager, agent been checking in?

We keep in touch with the club’s nutritionists daily, their advice on the type and preparation of the food has been invaluable. Then we also have a mandatory check-up with the coaching staff to advise of training needs. My manager has been amazing; she keeps me in touch with all other matters pertaining to my career.

MENTAL

  • How are you staying positive at this time?

I have always been a motivated person, despite every challenge I have faced in my life and career. So, I am extremely motivated right now to come back after this period in better shape and with a good mindset to challenge what this virus will bring us. We all need to have a positive mindset.

  • What words or message do you live by when faced with challenges?

Situations differ but the one positive message I keep at all times is ‘fall forward’ by Denzel Washington.

  • Being abroad, how are you managing to stay in touch with family and friends back home?

I connect with my family daily via video call, texts etc. I am all alone here, so I need to give them the peace of mind and to let them know I am all good.
