France striker Kylian Mbappe walk away with the World Cup Golden Boot award with eight goals after scoring a hat-trick in Sunday’s final defeat to Argentina.
Mbappe was only the second player to score three goals in a World Cup final after England’s Geoff Hurst achieved this feat back in 1966.
The Frenchmen finished the World Cup campaign one goal ahead of PSG teammate Lionel Messi, who was named the tournament’s best player.
Messi is the first player to score in both the group stage and all four rounds of the knockout phase in this tournament.
The 23-year-old has scored 12 goals in 14 World Cup games and is now tied with the Brazil great Pele for sixth place on the all-time list.
Mbappe is only the second player, after Vava, to score in back-to-back World Cup finals. Vava did it when Brazil won the tournament in 1958 and 1962.
The forward for Paris Saint-Germain has scored the most goals ever in the World Cup finals, with four.
