Luka Modric has his eyes set on winning the Uefa Nations League title after leading Croatia to a bronze medal at the World Cup.

In the 2-1 victory over Morocco, the 37-year-old earned his 162nd cap, four years after he helped his country finish second to France in the World Cup.

Now, Croatia will compete alongside the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain in the finals of the Nations League next June.

“That’s the plan,” said Modric when asked if he intends to keep playing international football.

“It would be a nonsense not to play in the Nations League, and then we’ll see how to proceed. I definitely want to stay for the Nations League.”

Croatia lost the World Cup semi-finals to Argentina, but their star player, Luka Modric, insisted that his squad had proven themselves worthy of being considered among the best in the world.

“We achieved something major for the Croatian football. We wanted the gold, we were close,” he told broadcaster HRT.

“In the end, we return to Croatia as winners. Croatia is not a miracle that appears every 20 years. We proved that we are constant, that we cannot be seen as dark horses but as a football power.”
