Tommy Fleetwood shot 31 on the stretch on Sunday to win the Abu Dhabi HSSBC Championship by one stroke, returning to the winner’s circle after a three-year hiatus.
‘I thought maybe the second win would come sooner to be honest,’ he said. It’s been a massive comeback. You keep knocking on the door and it will come. I didn’t really think it would be this week. It just shows a lot can happen in golf.’
The Englishman’s round took off when he chipped in for eagle at the 10th hole and he added three more birdies before signing for 67 and a one-shot victory over Dustin Johnson and Pablo Larrazabal.
‘I just thought keep going, you never know,’ said Fleetwood. ‘It’s a tough day really. The pins are tucked away and it’s very windy, especially at the start. The chip-in on ten, birdie on 11, changed everything all of a sudden from nowhere and I was leading.’
