Dylan Frittelli has taken a share of the lead at the Masters after completing his first round at Augusta National on seven under par on Friday.

The South African was out early after darkness suspended play on Thursday afternoon with more than 40 players yet to finish up their opening rounds.

Continuing on four under par, Frittelli concluded with the front nine by rolling in three more birdies that saw him surge up the leaderboard, which became quite congested at the summit with the likes of Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas finding their rhythm.

The 31-year-old Frittelli signed off with a seven-under-par 65 that meant he ended the round alongside Paul Casey at the top of the leaderboard.

He will now have a quick turnaround before teeing off for his second round, which should play into his favour given the momentum he established already on Friday.

Fellow South African Erik van Rooyen unfortunately withdrew from the Masters upon the completion of his first round due to injury.
