21-year-old Garrick Higgo has broken into the top 100 of the Official World Golf Rankings for the first time following his T3 finish at this past weekend’s Cyprus Open.
The young South African once again showed his resilience in what is proving to be a magnificent season for him on the European Tour after also claiming his first tour victory at the Portugal Open in September.
Higgo shot rounds 68, 66, 67 and 65 in Cyprus to finish two shots behind Callum Shinkwin and Kalle Samooja, who were eventually separated by a playoff with the Englishman winning his first title on the circuit.

The result had Higgo continue his dramatic surge up the rankings as he climbed up to 94th position for the start of the week.
This is a far cry from a year ago when Higgo wasn’t even in the top 1,000 of the world, showing just how maturely well he has performed throughout this year.
Sunday’s result also gave him a hefty payout of €49,533.75 (R938,269. 28) for his efforts, while Louis de Jager, who finished in T34 at the Cyprus Open, pocketed €6,639.11 (R125,741.03).
Wilco Nienaber received €3,270.38 (R61,914.46) for his T53 finish with Haydn Porteous ending the week on even par in T68 with prize money worth €1,960.31 (R37,114.66).

In another interesting development in the OWGR, Daniel van Tonder has moved up to 147 in the world after his fourth Sunshine Tour triumph of the season at last week’s Royal Swazi Open.
In his highest career ranking ever, it’s also the first time Van Tonder cracked the top 150 players in the world, which will create a great deal of personal optimism for him ahead of the European Tour’s arrival in South Africa later this month.
