Mackenzie Hughes won a Monday playoff at the RSM Classic with a par at the 17th hole of Sea Island Golf Club, edging out rivals Camlio Villegas, Henrik Norlander, and Blayne Barber.
Hughes flew the green and left his return chip short, but boxed the putt from the fringe to make the first score on the hole – a par that was worth a victory.
Barber found the greenside trap and splashed out to five feet, but slid his putt by the hole.
Next up was Norlander, who left his par putt below the hole after misreading the line.
Last was Villegas, a four-time PGA Tour winner who had a simple putt that needed to start on the left edge. He gave it a gentle nudge and the ball moved too much, sliding past the hole.
Hughes was happy to collect the win for his par, ending an anticlimactic final hole of sudden death.
No case of the Mondays here.
