Bernhard Langer capped off a unique season on the PGA Tour Champions with a 64 in Arizona to finish second at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, thereby winning the season-long money race.

The German’s worst finish this season was tied-13th, and he included four victories on his way to lifting the Charles Schwab Cup for the third consecutive time.

‘It’s incredible,’ said Langer. ‘Finishing all the tournaments throughout the year in the top 13, it’s extremely tough to do. So it’s difficult to put it all into words, how consistent it’s been, how good it’s been, but very blessed, very fortunate.’

Paul Goydos won the season-ending championship in wire-to-wire fashion, carding a 66 on Sunday for a two-shot margin of vitctory.

‘You’ve got to hit the ball in play here’ he said. ‘You’ve got to hit greens. It’s not a scrambling type golf course. At least if you do you’ve got to miss it in the right place, which I thought I did a very good job of all week for the most part.’

The American held off Langer and third-placed Colin Montgomerie, while Woody Austin and Jay Haas settled for a share of fourth.

‘If we played a match, Bernhard would have to give me like two (shots) a side, so I thought it was a pretty even spot to be in. Montgomerie probably the same thing, I was lucky to get past him. These guys are Hall of Famers,’ Goydos explained.
