Carrie Park made no mess during her round of 68 at Rondebosch Golf Club on Thursday and led the SA Women’s Masters by two strokes.
‘It gets tough out there, you see people playing well and you feel like you also need to perform. I took every shot at a time and waited for the birdies to come. I missed some putts, but overall it was solid,’ she said.
The 20 year old began the second round as co-leader, but pulled away from the pack with birdies at the sixth and ninth.
‘I think I hit 16 greens today, but that shot at the sixth was really good, I hit it very close and that got me going,’ she said of her birdie at the par three.
Second-placed Ashleigh Buhai caught up at one stage, but Park set herself apart with further birdies at the 11th and 13th before signing for four under par 68.
‘Every shot is not easy, but you have to trust it. You cannot focus on making mistakes, you just have to concentrate on hitting the next one. I did look at the leaderboard today, but I guess you can’t control other players,’ she said.
The Korean is yet to win on tour, but showed all the right signs in Cape Town this week. Saturday will be her first time leading into the final round of a Sunshine Ladies Tour event.
I can play the ball low, which helps at the coast. I like to play near the sea and I’m taking the lead, which is good. All I have to do is play my own game and hopefully it happens.
