Brett Rumford closed out the match play section of the World Super 6 with an emphatic win over Phachara Khangwatmai.
The Perth local led throughout 54 holes of stroke play, then dominated the six-hole match play on Sunday for his sixth European Tour win.
The tournament was a world first with 24 players competing in a final round of six-hole match play.
‘It’s amazing, particularly being a new format, [to be] the first winner of that,’ said Rumford. ‘Golf is bigger than one person. If it’s going to grow the game and it’s more than just a golf tournament, and [if] it becomes an event in which we’re trying to grow this sport with a bit more thrill and excitement about it, then I think as a Tour we’ve done a great job.’
Louis Oosthuizen finished fifth after losing his match play against Adam Bland in the quarter finals.
The 2010 Open Champion was tied for second place after three rounds, then triumphed in one match play set before settling for fifth place.
