In the latest instalment of a new sports crossover content series between the Ryder Cup and Roc Nation Sports International, iconic former American football player Victor Cruz has tried his hand at a unique golf challenge.
Earlier this month, the unique challenge series kicked off with England flyhalf Marcus Smith, who attempted to achieve a “kick-in-one” as he became the first Roc Nation athlete to put his crossover sports skills to the test on a golf driving range.
Now, in the second episode created by RNSI Productions, former NFL Super Bowl winning wide receiver Victor Cruz – who is a keen and talented golfer – is challenged by European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald to prove whether he is better at kicking a football, or better at long drives on the golf course.
Cruz puts his skills to the test on the Miami Beach Golf Club, where DJ Khaled’s ‘We the Best Foundation Golf Classic’ tournament took place, and the results certainly make for entertaining viewing, including his famous salsa dance celebration.
“We know how good you are at catching long throws from your quarterback, but how does that distance relate to when you’re on a golf course,” Donald asks Cruz during a light-hearted video message. “So we’ve set up this fun task to see if you can cover more distance with a football or more distance with a golf club.”
Cruz then duly unleashes a series of booming drives on a golf range before attempting to see if he can reach such distance with some long-range punts. It’s a must-watch, and needless to say, on the day, golf was the winner.
Rob Simpkins, who is the Head of Content and Strategy at Roc Nation Sports International, said it was great fun to be part of this latest episode.
“It’s incredibly exciting to use athletes from the entire breadth of our portfolio in the sports world. This was an authentic fit considering Victor is such a huge golf fan, and it was fantastic to have him become the latest member of our family to take part in this challenge. We have further episodes to come, and we are really excited about growing the interest in golf through content that should appeal to a variety of sports fans.”
This latest challenge follows on from the announcement in June that the Ryder Cup had formed a consultancy partnership with Roc Nation Sports International, which included making use of creative content creation through its video production service RNSI Productions.
