The WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational is still expected to go continue as scheduled with fans able to attend the event, which gets under way on 30 July.

The event will be held in Memphis, Tennessee and according to its executive director, preparations are being made as normal to accommodate fans at TPC Southwind.

‘We’re moving forward that we will have a tournament with fans,’ Darrell Smith told the Memphis Commercial-Appeal.

The organisers are, however, working according to health and government guidelines and recommendations, with Smith admitting that they could adjust their approach if the risk becomes too high.

‘The key point is we are going to not do anything that’s not safe for our players, our sponsors, our volunteers and the community of Memphis.’

‘We will be 100% aligned with local health department officials, CDC and World Health Organization as we move forward in the planning. We want to be responsible and thoughtful and transparent with all the different constituents as we move forward with the planning of the event,’ said Smith.

The PGA Tour’s new golf schedule, which is set to start in June, has indicated that the first four events of the new season will be held behind closed doors, meaning the WGC-FedEx could be one of the first where spectators will be allowed to attend the action again.
