Richard Sterne shot 67 on Saturday at The Grove to share third place after 54 holes at the Britsh Masters and set himself within four strokes of the lead.

The six-time European Tour champion has made a total of four bogeys this week, which helped him to reach 12 under par going into Sunday.

Sweden’s Alex Noren led the tournament on 16 under par and was three strokes clear of second-placed Rchard Bland.

‘I know from experience that it’s not that easy to hold leads. Anybody can come from behind and shoot eight under. You never know,’ said Noren. ‘I’m just trying to work on the things I work on with my coach and with my caddie and if I manage to pull it off, I do, but otherwise, you know, you go on.’

‘I said to my caddie, if that’s our worst day and we shoot 69, we should be in with a good shout tomorrow depending on what Alex does,’ added Bland. ‘He’s a class player. He’s only going to go forwards, and we’ve got to go and try to catch him.’

Sterne took up a share of third alongside Tommy Fleetwood, Bernd Wiesberger and Peter Hanson, while Marcel Siem and Lee Westwood were tied for seventh on 11 under par.
