Renault South Africa, a subsidiary of Motus Group, has signed a new three-year deal as the Official Vehicle Partner of the Sunshine Ladies Tour.
The agreement signifies the growth of women’s golf in Southern Africa and the seriousness with which a global company such as the French automotive giant is approaching diversity within the game.
“We are proud to align ourselves with women’s golf and to support the growth of the game and the Sunshine Ladies Tour. It’s an exciting moment for us to be able to play a role in driving the aspirations of our leading women golfers as they seek to showcase yet another element of South African sporting success,” said Shumani Tshifularo, Renault South Africa CEO.
“As a global company with an over 125-year history and with a presence in 128 countries we celebrate diversity. Sport remains a powerful partner in growing this message.”
The announcement comes amidst the Sunshine Ladies Tour’s new season which features a strong schedule of eight tournaments – two of which are co-sanctioned with the Ladies European Tour – and representation for the leading women’s professionals in certain key tournaments on the men’s Sunshine Tour.
The winners on the Sunshine Ladies Tour this season as well as the overall Order of Merit champion will earn a place in the Sunshine Tour’s new Waterfall City Tournament of Champions powered by Attacq to be played in May and where they will compete alongside the Sunshine Tour professionals for a first prize of R1 million.
“The growth of women’s sport is undeniable and aligns perfectly with some of our core brand values, which includes recognising and respecting diversity and inclusion,” said Sithabile Maphumulo, Vice President Marketing and Communications at Renault South Africa.
“Renault South Africa is a proud supporter of women’s sport through our other association with Netball South Africa and Titans Ladies Cricket, and to now be aligned with the leading women’s professional golf tour in Southern Africa is another positive step in our goal to be a brand that drives meaningful and sustainable change in women’s sport.”
Thomas Abt, Commissioner of the Sunshine Tour and speaking on behalf of the Sunshine Ladies Tour, said: “We have a truly competitive Sunshine Ladies Tour schedule with some exciting innovations for the South African game. It is a privilege to be able to follow this with a significant partnership with Renault South Africa that even further strengthens the message of the growth of South African women’s professional golf.”
