Jaco van Zyl and George Coetzee got into the zone during the second round of the World Cup of Golf on Friday, combining for a betterball score of 66.

Team South Africa were two under par for the tournament, 10 shots behind the lead of Team Denmark, who shot 60 for the second round at The Heath Golf Club.

Van Zyl and Coetzee played through the front nine with four birdies on the card and no dropped shots to turn in 31. They reached six under par with birdies at the 12th and 13th, took a bogey at next, then birdied the 16th before signing for 66.

Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen and Soren Kjeldsen knew they could be in for something special when they made two eagles on the front side.

‘To be honest I was thinking a little bit about that 59 on those last few holes,’ said Olesen. ‘But it was a great score and combined together we played really good.’

After that a run of five consecutive birdies from the 10th to the 14th sealed the deal, and they added a final birdie at the 18th for a round of 60 and a two-stroke lead over China’s Wu Ashen and Li Haotong.

Spaniards Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Jon Rahm were placed third going into the weekend, followed by a four-way tie for fourth place held by the teams of Italy, England, America and France.
