Henrik Stenson leads the Race to Dubai ahead of the DP World Tour Championship and the ‘Super Swede’ is keen to end 2016 on a high note.

‘Winning the BMW, The Open, and playing well in the Olympics. I had a good Ryder Cup as well, and we’re here right in the mix. It’s probably the best year of my career, yeah,’ he said.

‘I’m here trying to wrap it up in style, I’ve got some great competition and I’m looking forward to the week,’ the 40-year-old added.

Three years ago Stenson won the season-ending DP World Tour Championship and the Race to Dubai, so he’s no stranger to the course. His three-wood approach to six feet on the 18th hole in the final round was the 2013 shot of the year.

That same season he won PGA Tour’s season-long FedEx Cup and burst back on to the world stage.

Since then he’s been a leaderboard regular on both sides of the pond, topped off with his breakthrough major victory at Royal Troon earlier this year. His Sunday in Scotland was arguably the finest round of golf ever played in a major championship and he followed that performance with a silver medal at the Olympic Games.

There’s not much left for Stenson to achieve this year, and he spoke with calmness ahead of the European Tour’s season finale.

‘It’s good to be back, it’s the end of a long season, a great season for me. Alex [Noren] put himself in the mix with a win last week in South Africa, and Rory still has a mathematical chance. I better go out there and play a good game if I want to win [the Race to Dubai],’ he said.

‘There is no change from any other week. The course is in good shape, greens are rolling nicely, and if I can get the swing going then hopefully I’ll be able to pull it off,’ he concluded.
