Despite a magnificent hole-out on the 7th by Tom Brady, the team of Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning emerged as victors in Sunday’s The Match: Champions for Charity.

Rainy conditions delayed the start at Medalist Golf Club for about 50 minutes before the sports stars got under way, with Brady partnering up Phil Mickelson.

Woods and Manning were out of blocks quickly and went three up after the opening six holes, as Brady, in particular, found the going tough. The fact that he played 18 holes on Sunday morning, prior to the event, clearly didn’t help his cause as Woods’ elegance was backed up by pretty decent short play by Manning.

But, things would change drastically on the 7th when Brady, who was copping a lot of friendly banter from the opposing team and on social media, managed to roll in his third shot from about 100 yards.

It even silenced world No 3 Brooks Koepka, who offered to donate $100,000 if Brady could manage to make a par on the front nine, which was contested in the four-ball format.

As the rain started to bucket down again on the back nine, Brady and Mickelson sparked some fightback in the modified alternate shot.

With the match drawing to a close, Woods and Manning were made to work hard on the final holes. The 15-time Major champion, though, kept his cool throughout to lag his long birdie on the 18th and hang on for a one-up victory.

In total, more than $20 million were raised in aid of Covid-19 relief in the USA, and there was great interaction on and off the field.

Following last week’s battle at Seminole Golf Club, the second edition of The Match certainly thrilled golf fans around the world during these troubled times.
