Tyrone van Aswegen takes on one of golf’s spectacle tournaments this week – the Waste Management Phoenix Open – where he’ll be inspired to perform.

The 35 year old tied for 20th place at the Farmers Insurance Open last week after carding 70 for the final round. It was a shining light in an otherwise dark start to the year, but the massive crowds associated with this week’s Arizona tournament will surely boost his drive to perform.

Last year Van Aswegen enjoyed Sunday 68 at TPC Scottsdale on his way to a tie for 17th place, which boosted his FedEx Cup standing and restored the confidence.

This year he’s already begun to turn the season and will be aiming at a top-10 result in the desert, backed by the good memories.

Hideki Matsuyama returns to defend his title on the back of a flurry that’s seen him rise to world number five. The 24 year old from Japan has won twice in his last six starts on the PGA Tour and holds the title of ‘tournament favourite’.

Justin Thomas makes his return to the tour after taking a break following back-to-back victories in Hawaii. He leads the FedEx Cup standings and is in the form of his young life.

Retief Goosen continues his 2017 PGA Tour campaign this week at a course where he shot 68 on the final round last year. The two-time US Open winner needs to get some results under his belt to kickstart what has been a quiet season.

Likewise Louis Oosthuizen, who normally starts each year on a high note. This season he’s been very slow to shake the rust that built up during his long holiday to Namibia.

The 2010 Open Champion has all the game necessary to win, and will be urging to get ready for the Masters in April, which he lost in a playoff to Bubba Watson in 2014.
