Tyrone van Aswegen took a share of 11th place going into the weekend of the Farmers Insurance Open after carding 68 on Friday.

A flurry of three birdies going into the back nine propelled Van Aswegen within three strokes of the lead, but he dropped a shot at the last to settle for a four under par total.

Englishman Justin Rose led the way on eight under par, his Friday 71 was enough to stay one shot clear of second-placed Brandt Snedeker and Adam Hadwin.

‘I’m right where I love to be here on the weekend, and this course isn’t getting any easier,’ said Snedeker.

Rose didn’t drop a shot until missing short putts for par at both the 14th and 15th holes, but he salvaged the lead with a birdie at the 18th.

‘When the situation gets like that, you start to see not only some of the good stuff happening, but some of the bad stuff happening,’ he said. ‘But it was really nice to finish the way I did on 18 because … it was pretty hard to keep it out of the water at that point.’
