South Africa’s Erik van Rooyen has written an apology for losing his temper during last weekend’s PGA Championship in Kiawah Island.
Van Rooyen lashed out at the tee marker on the 17th hole with his club after finding the water on the par-3 during the second round of the Major.
Van Rooyen, who failed to make the cut, wrote on his social media on Wednesday that his actions were unacceptable and not part of his character.
‘I’ve been quiet on here whilst I’ve done some reflecting, My actions at the PGA Championship were unacceptable. I would like to apologise to my team, my sponsors, the PGA of America and the fans for letting you and myself down. It was totally out of character for me, and it should not have happened. I will learn from this and do better,’ read his apology
