Justin Walters is 105th in the Race to Dubai, and the top 110 keep their cards at the end of the season. There are three events left before the Finals Series begins, so it’s an important time of the year to be performing.

The South African dug deep on Friday at The Grove and shot a three under par 68 to rise 22 spots up the leaderboard and into the top 30.

Walters has won twice on the Sunshine Tour, and competed in Europe since 2013. He’s been through runner-up finishes and missed cuts, coming to terms with being a journeyman abroad.

This week he has a good idea of what needs to be done and his Friday round of 68 was crucial to the effort.

He’ll go into the weekend full of confidence about his chances of staying within the top 110 in the Race to Dubai.

Fellow South African Richard Sterne also carded 68 in the second round, that for a drop to fifth place after leading in the first round.

On Sunday he tied for second place at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, but will surely want a trophy by the end of this week. He was in a good position to contend for the title after reaching the halfway mark two strokes behind leaders Alexander Noren and Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston.

Haydn Porteous and Thomas Aiken also made there weekend, taking the South African tally to four.
