Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann is facing a backlash from his teammates following comments he made after the side’s poor start to the season. 

The Frenchman has spoken of the consequences his side faces if they don’t rapidly rediscover their best form but teammate Saul has not taken kindly to the suggestion his side face a relegation scrap.

Atletico, who lifted the league title back in the 2013-14 season, have begun the season with back-to-back draws, while the likes of rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid have recorded consecutive victories.

‘Griezmann needs to think about what he says,’ Saul told Deportes Cuatro ahead of his international clash with the rest of the Spain squad.

‘You have to think about where you are and what team you represent. It is true that at the end of the match, tiredness, the heat, everything comes together but you cannot say that. We have values and we cannot say that.’

Atletico will have a chance to bounce back when they face Celta Vigo away on September 10.

The match will be played at the Stadium de Balaidos.
