Spanish giants Barcelona have confirmed that veteran full-back Dani Alves is set to depart the club for Juventus.

The 33-year-old Brazilian reportedly opted against an option in his contract that would have extended his time at the Catalan club for another season, a rumour that has now been confirmed by the club’s technical secretary Robert Fernandez.

The attacking right back looked poised to quit the club in the off-season last term, but accepted an 11th hour deal from the Barca to stay put. One year on, a similar agreement appears unlikely to be forthcoming, and current Serie A holders Juventus are expected to announce the signing of the Brazilian in the coming days.

Alves has made 391 appearances in his time with the Catalan side, having made the move from Sevilla in 2008. Deployed in a flying wing-back role at Barca, Alves’ attacking tendencies became a hallmark of the side’s attacking brand of football in what proved a wildly successful era for the club during the Brazilian’s tenure.

Alves exits Barca a La Liga and Copa del Rey champion having helped the side to the double in his final season. The right back managed a goal and seven assists this term.

The Brazilian also regularly features for the national team, for whom he has made 89 appearances, scoring seven.
