Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti is convinced his calm personality is a key component of his coaching, agreeing with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The former Real Madrid boss was very popular among the Los Blancos players, whom he guided to their 10th European crown during his tenure. His personality, meanwhile, was summed up by Real star Ronaldo as being that of ‘a big bear’ – an assertion the coach has acknowledged.
‘This is my character,’ Ancelotti told Goal. ‘I think the thing you want to show in a relationship is your own character. I am quiet and calm, I think because I never had angry people around me,’ he explained.
The coach insists he does occasionally get very angry but that he does his best to control his emotions in front of his players and to speak to them in a rational way.
‘Sometimes I kick the couch when I’m really angry,’ he added, ‘but now I prefer to stay quiet. I prefer not to speak to the players if I’m angry. I prefer to speak the day after when we are all calmer.’
Finally, the coach moved to dismiss the significance of his famous raising of an eyebrow during interviews, an expression he explains he does not adorn intentionally.
‘I cannot control my eyebrow,’ he said. ‘Sometimes when I see an interview with me I am really surprised about my eyebrow going up without control. But there is no reason for this, no accident behind it,’ he concluded.
Ancelotti’s Bayern resume their quest for a fifth straight Bundesliga title when they travel to take on Entracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
The action from the Commerzbank-Arena gets underway from 15:30.
