Iceland and Austrian went head-to-head in the side’s final Group F encounter with Kari Arnason showing his class during his side’s 2-1 victory to book their spot in the knockout stages of the Euro 2016.
With Iceland advancing into the Last 16 of the Euro 2016 tournament, Malmö FF defender Kari Arnason played a major role in setting up one of his side’s goals during their 2-1 victory over Austria.
The 33-year-old defender was impressive not only in defence but going forward as well, completing a total of 51 touches on the ball and putting in a man-of-the-match performance for Iceland.
According to SASoccermag’s Opta-powered match stats the defender has managed to win nine out of 14 duels and has intercepted once pass during the Austria’s attack.
The former Rotherham United defender had a great performance in defence, winning one tackle, putting his body on the line to deny Sabitzer half-volley strike to keep the scores level. While making six clearance to stair the ball away from the Icelandic goal.
Arnason saw his only shot at goal come from outside the Austrian box and created two chance, one of which set up Jon Dadi Bödvarsson to score the opening goal of the match.
During his 90 minute performance for Iceland, Arnason managed to complete an impressive 27 out of 37 passes, with 54.1% coming from the centre and 35.1% coming from down the left.
Although, Iceland won the match, Austria controlled the match and had the best possession (69.5%), while the Icelandic side could only managed 30.5% of possession.
Ultimately, Iceland held on to win the match and secured their place in the Last 16 of the tournament, while finish second on the standing in Group F.
