Atletico Madrid have seized the initiative in the transfer market and have completed deals for exciting young pairing Nicolas Gaitan and Sime Vrsaljko.
Nicolas Gaitan will join the losing Champions League finalists in a €25 million deal from Benfica. The star is currently in action with Argentina at the Copa America.
That deal follows hot on the heels of the club’s confirmation of the signing of Croatia right-back Sime Vrsaljko. The star will join Atletico from Sassuolo for €16 million, plus variable add-ons.
The deal for the former has seen Manchester United lose out on the player, as he instead opted to link-up with Diego Simeone’s side.
‘Atletico de Madrid and Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Nicolas Gaitan to our club,’ the club’s website confirmed.
‘The midfielder is currently playing the Copa America with Argentina, and will travel to Madrid after the tournament that is being held in the United States, to finish all the necessary formalities so he can join the red and white team.’
The deal taking Vrsaljko to Los Rojiblancos, meanwhile, has been confirmed in the Italian media.
