Chelsea has confirmed that fullback Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract with the Blues, keeping him at the club until 2020.
The 27-year-old will now make his 200th appearance for the Blues if he is selected for their next match against Sunderland as they go in search of their 10th successive Premier League victory.
The Spanish international says he was more than happy to have signed a new deal with the club and insists that he is relishing the chance to continue his future at Stamford Bridge.
‘I’m really happy to have signed a new contract. Since I arrived here my target was to progress as a player and win trophies,’ Azpilicueta told the Chelsea website.
‘This new contract gives me the chance to continue my relationship with the club, that’s what I wanted and obviously, I’m really happy here.’
Azpilicueta expressed his delight at working under the guidance of Antonio Conte but the versatile player believes his side can improve their performance in the hopes of winning silverware in the future.
‘We’ve had some really good moments so far this season. From day one, we started working very hard. We have a new manager with new ideas and I’m really happy to be working with him.
‘Obviously, we can still improve but the long-term aim for us is to win trophies, that is what we all want, the players, manager, and fans.’
Azpilicueta’s has so far made 199 appearances for the Blues while scoring four times since joining the Blues in 2013.
Chelsea will be hoping to continue their winning ways when they travel to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland in the Premier League on Wednesday.
Kick-off has been set for 21:45.
