A brace from Arda Turan saw Barcelona eased to a 3-0 second-leg victory over Sevilla to secure the Spanish Super Cup by a 5-0 aggregate at the Camp Nou.
The Spanish La Liga champions dominated going forward and took the lead in the 10th minute through Arda Turan, but had Claudio Bravo to thank for keeping them in the contest, as the Barca shot-stopper saved a Vicente Iborra’s penalty in the 33rd minute of the match.
After the break, Barca proved their dominance by extending their lead with two more goals by Arda curler two minutes after half-time and a Lionel Messi header eight minutes later, sealing a comfortable victory.
Barca manager Luis Enrique chose to rest Luis Suarez but still named a strong line-up, with Andre Gomes and Samuel Umtiti handed their debuts.
However, it was Sevilla who had the first effort at goal when striker Wissam Ben Yedder fired an effort at goal only to by Bravo.
Despite the visitors first attempt at goal, it was Barca who took the lead as Gomes directed a pass into the path of Messi, who slid the ball through for Arda to finish into the bottom corner to make it 1-0 to the home side.
Messi had a great opportunity to get on the score sheet himself six minutes later, however his finishing let him down at the vital moment, as his half volley was guided wide of goal.
Then, it appeared we had a contest as Umtiti was adjudged to have handled in the area, but Iborra stepped up and saw his poor penalty well saved by Bravo down to his right.
On the other end, Seville had a chance to level matters when Umtiti appeared to have handled the ball in the penalty area, Iborra stepped up to take the spot-kick and saw his poorly taken penalty saved by Bravo.
On the stroke of half-time, Gabriel Mercado had a chance of his own to get an equalising goal but saw his header hit the bar and two minutes later Sevilla paid for their earlier misses as Arda doubled his side’s advantage.
Eight minutes later Messi made it 3-0 when he met a cross from Denis Suarez’s and guided a header into the net to seal the victory for his side.
With 13 minutes left, Barca didn’t take their feet off the pedal as substitute Ivan Rakitic came close to adding a fourth, however, he was ultimately denied by the Seville shot-stopper.
Barcelona held on to a 3-0 victory against Sevilla to seal a record 12th Super Cup title.
