Bayern Munich are set to offer striker Robert Lewandowski a new deal at the club but have admitted they will not offer the star obscene wages.

Lewandowski has become an important figure at the Bundesliga champions following his transfer from the club’s rivals Borussia Dortmund back in 2014.

Bayern are now eager to extend the contract of the star despite admitting the likes of Manchester City and PSG would likely offer him more money.

‘We have had a number of meetings with Lewandowski’s agents. We are ready to renew his contract,’ Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told Bild.

‘We will definitely not sell him. But we have always been willing to change a player’s contract if the situation or his value changes.’

Rummenigge is adamant the German club remain very competitive in the wages they offer and has rejected the suggestion that offering more money would bring the club greater success,

‘We will not be paying the kind of wages on offer at Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, though. We are paying some very good wages, but those clubs are paying crazy figures.

‘You do not win more trophies [by paying massive wages] anyway,’ he concluded.

Lewandowski netted an impressive 30 goals from 32 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern last term.
