Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero has praised the contribution of defender John Stones since joining the club from Everton at the beginning of the season.
The 22-year-old, a regular starter in Pep Guardiola’s side, has already impressed after making 18 appearances in all competitions this season.
Stones, a ball-playing centre half, has been key in helping create City’s buildup from deep and his desire to step into midfield is something Guardiola actively encourages.
Caballero has praised the young defender and believes his style of play makes him a unique English defender.
‘He’s different to the normal centre back in England,’ Caballero told the Manchester City website.
‘They are always big and very good with high balls. John plays really well from the right side, the left side, and his passing always tries to build something.
‘He does everything very well. We are really happy with him. I’m pretty sure England have a great centre back for a long time.’
The Argentine shot-stopper believes the former Everton defender will go on to become a great centre back for club and country under the guidance of Pep Guardiola.
‘John is so young, but he plays as though he has been around for more years. He is growing up now with Pep and hopefully England can have a great centre back in him,’ he added.
Manchester City travel to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.
Kick-off has been scheduled for 17:00.
