Chelsea cruised to the top of the Premier League table with a comfortable 5-0 victory over Everton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
Both the Blues and Toffees got off to a rocky start in the opening exchanges as they struggled to keep possession of the ball.
The Blues opened the scoring in the 19th minute, when Eden Hazard cut inside before unleashing a low strike into the bottom right corner to beat the Toffees shot-stopper.
A minute later, Marcos Alonso doubled Chelsea’s lead when an Everton defensive error saw Pedro win the ball in the critical area and pass to Hazard, who in turn set up Alonso to make it 2-0 to Chelsea.
The Blues managed a third goal in the 43rd minute with an in-form Diego Costa finding the back of the net with a fine finish from close range.
The Blues went into half-time with a commanding 3-0 lead over the Toffees.
However, in the 56th minute Hazard completed his brace with another superb finish at the near post, adding to Everton’s misery.
Things went from bad to worse for the Toffees in the 65th minute when Pedro tapped in a rebound shot from Costa to give Chelsea a 5-0 lead over the visitors.
The Blues managed to hold on to their comfortable lead to collect all three points at home and ease their way to the top of the Premier League table.
