Manchester City faced a testing visit from Everton on Saturday as Romelu Lukaku scored a crucial goal to help his side to a hard-fought point.

In a game dominated by Pep Guardiola’s City, Everton had to dig deep defensively to keep themselves in the contest and hope one of their attacking stars could make the best of a rare opportunity going forward.

That proved to be precisely what happened, as Belgian star Lukaku netted after a counter attack as the Toffees kept the league leader at bay to draw the contest.

According to SportsClub’s Opta-powered matchcentre stats, Lukaku made 40 touches of the ball over the course of his 90 minutes on the pitch. The striker also contested a remarkable 17 duels in the contest, an indication of his work rate and never-say-die attitude.

Lukaku managed just two shots over the course of the game as the Toffees were largely starved of possession but the striker made the most of his charge into the box from the left to fire past the goalkeeper to put his side 1-0 up.

The Belgian also managed to complete 14 of his 25 attempted passes in the tie despite being largely isolated up front.
