Bayern Munich assistant manager Paul Clement revealed that he turned down the opportunity to join England coach Sam Allardyce’s coaching staff.

The 42-year-old is currently serving as assistant coach to Carlo Ancelotti’s side after being sacked by Derby County as manager earlier this year, according to SkySports.

The former Chelsea assistant manager revealed that the FA had approached him to join the England coaching team but he didn’t believe that he would be able to handle both roles simultaneously.

‘It is true the England team would have liked to have had me as assistant coach,’ Clement said.

‘There was an inquiry, and it is a huge honour.

‘I thought about it but there is so much to do at Bayern that it is incompatible. That’s why, after consulting with the team, I turned it down,’ he added.

So far, England have confirmed that Sammy Lee, who previously worked under Allardyce at Bolton is the only assistant to have joined the England staff.
