Liverpool welcomed a visit from West Bromwich Albion to Anfield on Saturday as Philippe Coutinho shined in a 2-1 victory.
Coutinho provided much of Liverpool’s spark all afternoon against a stubbornly defensive West Brom side as the attacking midfielder’s dynamic movement and incisive passing helped to create chances for his teammates.
According to SASoccermag’s Opta-powered matchcentre stats, the Brazilian played 88 minutes of the fixture, making as many as 80 touches of the ball over the course of the contest. The star was also relentless in his pressing and challenging for the ball, coming out on top in eight of his 11 duels and making two tackles.
In all, Coutinho fired six shots on goal, two of which were on target. Crucially, the Brazilian netted his side’s second goal of the match as he cut in expertly from the left wing before rifling home a powerful shot at the near post.
Coutinho was also effective in his distribution for the side, making 52 of his 60 attempted passes and helping to transition Liverpool’s play and set up numerous attacks.
