'CR7 motivation key' – Maradona

Diego Maradona believes Cristiano Ronaldo’s hunger for international success could be key in deciding Euro 2016 on Sunday.

Portugal and France will go head-to-head to decide the European Championships when they meet at the Stade de France this evening.

Ronaldo has never won an international tournament with his country. The closest the star came was a loss in the final of Euro 2004 on home soil to Greece.

France is the favourites to seal the title as this time around it is they who are tournament hosts, while Portugal has been unconvincing for large parts of the tournament.

Maradona , however, believes Ronaldo could yet inspire an upset.

‘It’s not all about strategy in big games. Wanting something badly is big motivation,’ Maradona told Goal.

‘Playing a second final at 31, Ronaldo won’t get a better chance at international glory. How badly he wants it could determine the distance between France and yet another successful home run.’

Kick-off for the game is a 21:00.
