Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a new five-year deal with Real Madrid keeping him contracted until June 2021.
Gareth Bale and Ronaldo are the latest in a recent series of Real stars given contract extensions as the club prepares to serve a one-year transfer ban imposed by Fifa, should a final appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport fail.
Among the re-signed players are Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Lucas Vazquez.
The 31-year-old CR7 is now in his eighth season with the Spanish La Liga side, since making a then world-record transfer of £80-million from Manchester United in 2009.
‘Cristiano Ronaldo signed his contract extension with Real Madrid in the board room of the Santiago Bernabéu, accompanied by president Florentino Pérez,’ the Real Madrid website confirmed.
‘The Portuguese player is linked to the club until 30 June 2021. Following the signing, he received a replica of the Puerta de Alcalá and a shirt with his name and 2021 on the back.’
Ronaldo has scored more than 350 goals for Real, while winning two Champions League trophies, a La Liga title, two Copa del Reys, one Supercopa, Uefa Super Cup, and Fifa Club World Cup.
