Germany sauntered into the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 on Sunday following a decisive 3-0 victory over Slovakia, with Julian Draxler proving key to the win.

Germany were completed dominant in the match from start to finish as they recorded 65 percent of the possession in the first period and controlled 61 percent of the ball by the duration of the game, according SASoccermag’s Opta-powered match stats. 

The world champions’ midfield completely overran Slovakia’s as the Germans recorded 589 passes in total, while Slovakia managed just 390.

The Germans also manufactured vastly more shots than their opposition as they had 21 shots compared to Slovakia’s seven.

The standout player on the day for Germany was Draxler. The winger managed 47 touches of the ball for the match, while he made 23 of his 29 passes. Draxler was pivotal as he ghosted past his marker to set up Mario Gomez for Germany’s second goal in the game, while the star also got on the score sheet himself with a volley from close range.
