Atletico Madrid have completed a deal for the signing of red hot Sevilla forward Kevin Gameiro for a €32-million fee.
The 29-year-old, whose striking exploits where key for Sevilla last season, joins the capital side on a four-year deal, where he will likely be partnered up front with Atletico talisman Antoine Griezmann.
Atleti were believed to have been chasing the signature of former striker Diego Costa, who the club sold to Chelsea two seasons ago. However, having proved unable to tempt the striker back, the club made a move for Gameiro instead.
Gameiro netted 16 league goals for Sevilla last season and proved their key performer as the side eventually finished 7th on the table.
The forward was a surprise exclusion from France’s Euro 2016 squad, especially considering his heroics in the Europa League final victory.
The forward has impressed over the last three seasons at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, netting 67 times over the period.
The move was confirmed on the La Liga club’s official Twitter page.
