Veteran Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has praised Gonzalo Higuain for his decision to ditch Napoli for the Italian Champions.
The legendary stopper believes the striker has shown courage by following through with the transfer from Napoli to their greatest rivals and has backed the mega €90-million deal as the correct decision.
‘I believe that a player who has the courage to make such a choice demonstrates a great personality,’ Buffon told Sky Sport Italia.
‘Someone like Higuain, who over three years at Napoli scored loads of goals, has the right to choose another destination,’ he added.
Higuain scored 36 league goals last season as he surpassed a long-standing Serie A scoring record. His controversial transfer to Juventus has made him the third most expensive signing ever, with only Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo’s moves to Real Madrid costing more.
Higuain was far and away the best forward in the league as he netted almost double the tally of Juventus’ Pablo Dybala, who was the runner-up in the scoring stakes.
‘He can have an enormous impact on our squad,’ concluded Buffon.
