Luis Enrique has praised his Barcelona players following their impressive victory over Sevilla in the two-legged Spanish Super Cup.
Barca came into the home leg of the tie two goals to the good and proved far too much for Sevilla to handle as they added a further three goals before the watching Camp Nou crowd.
Arda Turan continued his resurgence in form with a brace before a rare Lionel Messi headed effort concluded the scoring.
‘It was especially pleasing that we didn’t concede any goals, and that was because the players competed with such intensity,’ Enrique told Barcelona’s website.
‘But it was a fair result. Now we need to focus on Saturday’s game, where we’ll be starting the league as champions and seeking to retain our title.’
The manager admitted he was pleased by Turan’s showing, particularly given that the Turk has struggled to adapt at the club since his switch from Atletico Madrid last season.
Finally, the former Barcelona and Real Madrid player congratulated his team as a whole.
‘It’s all thanks to the great players I have. They never cease to surprise me in every game and every training session. They’re unique, they’re different.’
Barca will face Real Betis in their opening game of the new La Liga season on Saturday.
The match will be played at the Camp Nou.
Kick-off is 18:15.
