Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand is predicting a two-horse race in this season’s Premier League. 

The ex-Red Devils defender is anticipating the two Manchester Clubs to do battle for the title, with Jose Mourinho having recently taken the reins at United, while Pep Guardiola has been appointed to the helm at Manchester City.

‘It’s United or City. You can’t look past those two managers. They are coming from different places, with Jose wanting to prove the season at Chelsea is a one-off,’ Ferdinand told The Sun.

‘It looks like there’s a real focus about him and that’s dangerous when he’s got that hunger back. And Pep is just a proven, serial winner of titles wherever he’s been. So it makes for a real good season.’

With the likes of former Juventus and Itlay coach Antonio Conte leading Chelsea and ex-Borussia Dortmund mastermind Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, Ferdinand is adamant the Premier League boasts the best managerial line-up in the world.

Ferdinand also believes Mourinho is already in the midst of turning around United’s fortunes while he admitted he would have loved to have played under the Portuguese.

Finally, the United legend spoke on Paul Pogba’s seemingly imminent transfer.

‘He’s about improvement and being the best. When he left, I said “Why are you leaving?” He said, “I want to be the best in the world”. He’s on the right track. He’s not there yet,’ Ferdinand concluded.
