Arsenal travelled to Leicester City’s King Power Stadium on Saturday evening as last season’s top two played out a 0-0 draw.

Both sides were looking to bounce back following losses in their opening fixtures and it was Arsenal who started the brighter of the two sides as they had a succession of early efforts blocked.

There were no clear-cut chances in the opening quarter of an hour as Arsenal steadily pinned the Foxes back inside their own half before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain send a curling effort just wide of the mark with 26 minutes gone.

The next effort also went the way of Arsenal as Santi Cazorla came close with a free kick with 30 minutes played. Leicester then had a strong penalty shout following a foul on Danny Drinkwater, but there was nothing forthcoming from the referee. The scores remained level at half-time.

The second period began much as the first had done with neither side looking particularly dangerous while in possession. Riyad Mahrez then produced some skill before he was fouled just outside the box, but send the resulting free kick flying over the bar with 55 minutes gone.

Leicester were enjoying much more of the ball in the second period but were struggling to make it count. Jamie Vardy then missed his side’s best chance of the game as he fired wide from close range with just 20 minutes left to play.

With the game reaching a frenetic pace with time running out, substitute Ahmed Musa had another strong penalty appeal for the Foxes but the cries were again waved away. Theo Walcott then tried a chipped effort but it was comfortably saved.

Some incredible skill from Mahrez almost carved Arsenal open in extra time but Petr Cech was on hand to save a point for the Gunners. The score ended all square at 1-1.
